Free Horizon Student Government Elections

Executive Board Application

The Student Council Committee (comprised of FHM staff) is happy to announce upcoming elections for the FHM Student Council!

Upper Elementary and Middle School students are eligible to run for the executive board, including the offices of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary, and Middle School students may run for Class Representative positions. Every FHM student will have the opportunity to vote for the school-wide offices, while each classroom will vote to elect their two Class Representatives.

Students who are interested in running for the executive board must complete and return the Student Council Board Application Form to the main office no later than 3:30 pm on Thursday, October 25th. Students may pick up their copy of the Student Council Board Application Form from the main office, or download the form from the FHM website. Eligible candidates will be notified by Friday, October 26th.  All candidates must prepare a speech to be videotaped November 1st and 2nd. A member of the Student Council Committee must review the speech prior to videotaping. Prepared speeches for review should be delivered to the front office by Monday, October 29th. These speeches will be viewed by the entire student body, in homerooms, on Wednesday, November 7th and Thursday, November 8th.

Following the presentations, all elementary classrooms will elect two Class Representatives who will be announced the following day, Friday, November 9th, along with the winning Board Members over the intercom!

Regular meetings begin on Wednesday, November 14th for the Full Student Council (2:15 – 3:15 pm) and Wednesday, November 28th for the full Executive Board (12:30 - 1:30pm). Please see the attached schedule for meeting dates and times.

The mission of the Student Council is to teach kids about government and democracy, while working on a few projects during the school year.  These projects include service learning projects and social events. The group decides on what these projects are and when they occur.

Students who have questions or need guidance should contact one of the members of the Student Council Committee: Mr. Tony (Music), Mr. Seth (Frisco), Mr. Derek (Middle School Science), or Ms. Miranda (Medicine Bow).

We look forward to an exciting and productive year with Free Horizon’s Student Council!
